Why Dinner?

The older I get, the more I value meaningful conversations and relationships.  It's easy to go throughout our days, weeks and eventually years working our jobs, raising our kids, building our businesses, doing many good things and leaving little time for the most important things in life.  I remember so well my Grandfather admonishing that "we bring nothing into the world, and we will take nothing out."

People are our greatest commodity. If we don't take time to build up and encourage those we are around and those we come into contact with, what do we really have? I've never heard anyone on their death bed wishing for more "stuff."

I love gems in the rough. I love seeing the potential in people, who they really are and the greatness that may be hidden inside. And, this is why I host dinner parties. It's a tangible way to love and have conversations that are more than a mile wide and an inch deep.

At a recent dinner party, as we sat outside under the trees eating a feast of fresh herb chimichurrie chicken and fresh Israeli salad, there was much comraderie as we exchanged stories about business ventures and all things life related. As the day turned to night and the stars came out, the candles seemed a bit brighter, and our conversations turned inward to a deeper place. The question of the night was, "If you could change one thing in the world and play your part in it, partnering with a God so Big, what would you do?"  It didn't take long for passions to become evident and for life callings ito be identified. So, I ask you. What is your part in bringing some of heaven to the earth?

The beauty in it all? We all had different answers, unique ideas placed into us by the One who loves us so. As the evening came to a close, there was much encouragement, many hugs and a strong feeling of being loved and accepted for who we were.

Is a dinner party a lot of work? Yes it is. But it's one way to connect on a level deeper than we are so accustomed to in our rushed culture. Suppose we simplify our life a bit to include more meaningful conversations and not so much chit-chat?  The meaningful comes with digging a little deeper and stepping out of our fear and comfort. We're all human, after all, designed for a purpose greater than ourselves.

What will you do today? If we wait for the perfect opportunity, the perfect house, the perfect budget, the perfect friends, we will never experience the meaningful.  People who know me well know I am all about success and making the most of every opportunity.  Things of value never come without a price tag. Within your purpose, be bold, love deeply.
